North America: Portrait of a Continent is an epic map, hand-drawn with pen and coloured pencil over a 5-year period. It spans the entire continental region from Alaska to Central America, with over 600 city skylines.
This map celebrates North America's extraordinary variety. From wildlife to music, history to architecture, sports to indigenous culture. Inspired by Anton Thomas’s travels through the US, Canada, and Mexico, it offers a compelling and fresh perspective on a vast continent.
Two beautiful fine art giclée prints were issued as limited editions — a large size of 1200 copies, and an extra-large size of 400. As of 11 December 2025, less than 100 are left from the 1200, and the 400 is sold out. A few artists proofs are available of the 400, just email us (welcome@antonthomasart.com) to discuss.

Shipping & Taxes
All orders ship from Australia. Some international orders may be subject to your local VAT or import tax upon arrival (this does not apply to the USA, NZ, and usually the UK). For more details, please see the Taxes & Duties section on our Shipping Policy page.
US customers: thankfully, maps are exempt from the new global tariffs announced in 2025. No extra charges will apply upon arrival, the price you see here is final.
Posters: Choosing Un-laminated vs. Laminated
All posters are available un-laminated or laminated.
- Un-laminated: ideal for framing.
- Laminated: ideal if you don't plan to frame it. Laminates are highly durable (perfect for kids!), with a beautiful matte finish — no gloss or reflection. For more info about mounting/display, see the question below.
Displaying, Mounting, Framing
If you’re framing a map, we recommend considering perspex/acrylic instead of glass for the largest prints (e.g the North America: Portrait of a Continent limited editions). This is generally lighter, safer, and more suitable for oversized frames. A mat board is not essential – all prints include a generous white border for framing.
The laminated posters do not require framing. There are plenty of simple, cost-effective ways to hang them without a frame:
- Magnetic poster hangers – our favourite option. For example, these on Amazon. For North America: Portrait of a Continent posters we recommend the 38” option for the Large (37.8" wide) print, or 28” option for the Small (27.1" wide).
- Binder clips hung from nails, hooks, or pushpins.
- Thumb tacks or pushpins.

Difference between Limited Edition Prints and Posters
Limited editions are fine art-quality giclée prints. They’re printed with rich archival pigment inks on heavy 300gsm natural cotton rag — a beautiful natural cotton paper with subtle texture and incredible detail. Each edition is produced in limited quantities to enhance its value and rarity. Every print is hand-signed and uniquely numbered by the artist, and comes with a matching Certificate of Authenticity. Once an edition sells out, prints of that size cannot be reproduced again.
Posters are high-quality inkjet prints on a more lightweight 180gsm paper, making them more affordable and appropriate for laminating. They’re also printed with archival inks, ensuring their colours won’t fade.
No matter which version you choose, all maps are thoughtfully sized for clarity and detail, ensuring a beautiful viewing experience at every level.
