Wild California (COMING SOON)
Few places on Earth have a more dramatic geography than California. From soaring 14,000-foot mountains to vast deserts, spectacular coastlines to the Great Basin, it is a place that makes a big impression. It has a dizzying array of wildlife, and its flora is magnificent—including Earth's tallest, biggest, and oldest trees.
I first went to California in 2011, and have visited many times since. In late 2024, I went to both Death Valley and Yosemite for the first time and was awestruck by the beauty. So, I've commenced a map that celebrates its wonders.
This is a small map by my standards, and I expect it to be done by Christmas 2025. It shows California from an unconventional perspective—facing east, a wonderful way to show the grandeur of the land.
The working title is Wild California, because like Wild World (and Wild Kenya, the other map I'm currently drawing), its primary focus is nature. Hundreds of native species will roam California, and its stunning landscapes will be drawn to the best of my ability. And unlike Wild World, this map will include little skylines of California's iconic major cities. To offer more context to us humans viewing the map, I felt it was important to place these.
